The J22 world championship was greatly affected by weather conditions; the strong wind was blowing at up to 40 knots, causing the regattas to be suspended for 3 days. With the wind blowing from 20 to 24 knots and a rough sea, there were 5 trials in 2 days. The wind caused the 58 sailing boats to have considerable problems with their sails, as well as breakages and capsizes.
The Scandinavian boats were the favourites. The winner was Den Engelsman (sailing NILE DUTCH AFRICA LINE), followed by Nil Boc, from Holland, (CATOLOTOLO) and Kim Christensen, from Denmark, (SOFFE).
